When Black Americans were segregated and treated as second class citizens, was democracy dead? No, the civil rights movement happened.
When America took the Philippines from Spain in 1899 and refused to return it to the Philippinos, was Democracy dead? No, it was returned in 1947.
When the South attempted to succeed causing the Civil War, was Democracy dead? No, the Union fought and bled to keep the country together.
When World War 1 erupted and the Sedition Acts were put into place, criminalizing any speech against American war efforts, did Democracy die? No, the War ended and the Acts were expired never to be renewed.
Democracy dies in silence, and silence is the method of the down trodden and weak. “The strong do what they can, and the weak do what they must,” so be strong, and do not lose hope. America is a Republic first and foremost.

I'm from the Bay Area so we had Japanese Americans who were in the concentration camps speak at high school. I know families that were forced to flee Vietnam to America and Americans forced to fight in Vietnam for no reason. Bobby, Johnny, and Michael all got blown away in broad daylight.
And the BLM protests were against killing people in broad daylight with no repercussions.
I'm glad people care now but like...freaking out just now feels like it betrays a certain naivety about the country for a lot of people.

If they can convince you they've already won why would you fight back.
This is the foundation behind why a lot of people don't vote in the first place.
This is the worst type of voter suppression in my opinion. Gerrymandering sucks, closing local polling stations sucks, but they aren't the most effective way to get people to stop voting.
The easiest way is to prevent you from even thinking that you can change things by voting. This oftentimes creates a lifelong habit of non-voting, it is one less person you have to worry about.

This isn't something the US can correct. This isn't like a boat taking on water. You can't just bail the water and be fine.
Fascist movements don't just do away. You can't just put people in prison, as has literally been demonstrated by the release of those who attempted to overthrow the US government on January 6, 2021. It was an attempted coup and now, just 4 years later, they are all free.
Additionally, the damage to our system of government is permanent. Even if we undo everything that has been done - which will be impossible with Republicans in Congress and the fascists on the Supreme Court - it still has revealed that it's all just paper. The "United States" has no real checks and balances of those checks and balances are all concentrated in the hands of one group, in this case the fascist right-wing oligarchs who, through several organizations (most notably the Federalist Society).
The worst part is the right had learned they don't have to be active or smart about it. All that had to do for the last 30 years was prevent progress long enough for their people to be put in place where they could drag us further into fascism.
American had turned into a game of tug-of-war, but one side realized they could just use a ratchet. "Stop Democrats from doing anything" brought us to where we are, and NOTHING can undo that.

Eh, I disagree about abusers fearing their victims fighting back. They ARE cowards, but IME, narcissistic abusers fear irrelevance. They can’t stand when you abandon the dynamic, and exist in your own sovereignty, because that’s what they lack (any core sense of self). “Fighting back” is often exactly what they want, and that’s why they bait their victims constantly. It gives them a chance to test and assert control. When you leave them, and focus on your own healing while ignoring them, that’s when they truly lose power. (Not to say you shouldn’t report abuse, but most abusers don’t respect authority, or accept their own wrongdoing—hence Trump. Plus ACAB.)

I 100% agree with what she said in this video, and I like that she said it. As someone who lived with an alcoholic father who would flip out if he ever felt disobeyed, this meant a lot to me, especially because it’s so obvious that trump is an abuser, and I worry that people who don’t recognize that are not capable of recognizing an abuser when they see one.
But comments on here are mentioning that she supports Israel’s genocide against Palestinians, and I didn’t know about that because I’m not paying attention to everything going on in Washington, so now I don’t know what I’m supposed to feel.

Yeah, MOST abusers will take that as "Oh shit, I can't push them around anymore" and stop. But look at L.A. last year, and Minnesota this year. People are protesting and fighting back, and Trump immediately threatens to use the military to get people in line, and has even threatened to strip citizenship from people who were BORN in the US. That's the huge difference with other abusers and our own, is that this abuser HAS ACCESS to power, and isn't afraid to use it.
Do I think we should stop fighting? Not at all. It's just not as simple as "stand up for yourselves and he'll stop".

No one stood up to him, one day it was apparently my turn to get picked on.
He was calling me names all day, then at lunch he was throwing food in my direction. Finally, an M&M hit the back of my head. I stood up, walked over to him and slapped him so hard he went flying out of his chair.
He never picked on me or anyone else after that

This is a nice quote for a social media clip to farm karma, congrats OP on hitting 3 million soon, but it doesn't match up with reality at all. When you fight back against Trump he just trolls you and makes it worse. See the No Kings protests. See the additional agents flooding into Minnesota. Man does not care at all.

I'm in the UK and struggling to see any Democrats leading the charge on this and pushing back. Everyone seems to just be agreeing that it is bad but doing nothing. I understand that the Republicans have alot of control but surely someone needs to channel the fightback?

One of my biggest gripes right now? Dem leadership having absolutely no spine. Not a discussion refinement passing a spending bill (when they gladly postpone it other times for way lessor reasons). I will never vote Republican though someone like McCain may have gotten my vote last cycle. But I also don’t think I’ll ever vote for any dem who did not put up a fight. I think Miss Crockett and Mr Frey are the only ones I think feel what I do. It’s enough. There is no plan. No exit strategy. We are in an occupation phase. They are allowed to call unarmed women terrorists. They are here to execute the local population for political allegiances. Funny enough probably the only Dem that was still in the fight, decided not to run days before the murder.
